LONG POST, Please read: Internet Pornography: DON'T BE NAIVE

There is an epidemic on our earth and in our homes of a catastrophic proportion. It is an epidemic of pure evil, and it has entered 1 in 3 homes in America. This epidemic I speak of: Pornography. Our children are subjected to it, our spouses are subjected to it and it will ruin our homes if we allow it to enter our doors. It cannot be a guest in our homes, and in our lives.

I recently got acquainted with a
fabulous woman who is just as passionate about protecting her family as I am, if not more. She has some family members that are actually taking a stand to the filth that is right at our fingertips, and I for one am going to stand and support the fight against Pornography in our homes with her.
This is the e-mail I recieved from her:
Okay- I'm going to sum this all up for you. The government controls this computer company called: ICANN. There are 65,000 ports or (channels) that the Internet has. The US only uses 10 of those ports if you can imagine. Ralph Yarro has created a way for their to be a CLEAN computer. But instead of everyone having to go out and buy a whole new computer, he is trying to get CP80 passed by the government so they will open up another channel in the Internet. THAT WAY, all we have to do is contact our server (cox, quest, etc...) and LITERALLY they flip a switch and we have a FILTH FREE computer. crazy, huh?? AMAZING IS WHAT IT IS!! anyhow- i am so involved b/c my aunts and uncles are the committee for CP80 for Arizona. The meeting last week was UNBELIEVABLE. I learned things about pornography i never could have imagined. It's EVERYWHERE. we are just so sheltered is what we are. Ralph Yarro just wants us to get the word out and contact our state officials to let them know WE SUPPORT CP80.
This is the e-mail I recieved when I signed up for 'battle':
Today we find ourselves in the middle of an immoral revolution. It is a fight for the virtue and morality of our children, our families, and our world. As fathers and mothers, husbands and wives, we are especially qualified to fight in this terrible war.
Today the battlefield favors the pornographer, the criminal, and those who put the love of money before all else. We cannot afford to stand by and watch the battle rage from the sideline.
More than three years ago, I decided to do something. Not only did I feel that not enough was being done to fight Internet pornography, but those who were fighting it were completely missing the target. Even the Supreme Court seemed to be ruling against decency and morality-an unfortunate result of a lack of understanding concerning the Internet.
I like to refer to this lack of technical understanding as the "Gen-TechGap" or the technical generation gap. We are using old and stale arguments to fight this battle. We need to educate ourselves and leverage the same technology the pornographers are using to invade our homes, to repel their advances and put them back into their place.
Today, if you drive anything but a fuel-efficient car, you can be labeled as a "bad person" and even immoral-yet, those who create, distribute, and consume pornography are generally accepted and in many cases protected by law! Even with the medical findings available to us today that prove the highly addictive and destructive nature of Internet pornography, especially for children, we are hesitant to take action.
Internet pornography is not just a moral issue, it is a mental-health issue and a child-abuse issue - it has become a porndemic!
The Internet is the perfect delivery system for this wretched content, and so far, it has proven itself to be above the laws of our society. Many politicians unfortunately agree with this point of view, holding technology above our families and children.
I do not agree with the idea that the Internet should be left free from regulation and responsibility.
I do not agree with those who turn a blind eye to destructive nature of Internet pornography for fear that change would disrupt the great wealth generated by the Internet. I do not agree that everyone's best interests are represented on the Internet today.
Who said that the Internet was for the pornographer and those who tolerate it? It is our Internet-It is my family's Internet and your family's Internet. It is everyone's Internet. But the Internet is not accountable to you, to me or to anyone else. The Internet is controlled by a small group of individuals who want to force their spin of "free speech" and chaos upon the whole world.
I know that this is not a comfortable subject. But it is the kind of conversations we need to start having. Support politicians who support change; demand it from those in office; and educate yourself concerning the moral revolution we now find ourselves in.
You cannot stand by on the sidelines any longer. The immoral minority controls the Internet today because we lack the knowledge and tools to challenge them.
Find your voice. Stand up and be counted with those engaged in this important fight that we must win. Please visit the
Team CP80 Action Center for information on how to make your voice heard today!
Sincerely,
Ralph YarroPresident and CEO, The CP80 Foundation

Jen, That is amazing. I was beginging to think that there was no one else but LDS people who felt so strongly against this issue. I don't know if you read my petition to Blogger about this issue that I posted on the sisters site somewhere after our pornography forum we had. I went back to find what I had written and I couldn't.... basically I was surfing the blogs on Blogger at work and a page came up that was disgusting, pornography, on Blogger!!! I wrote a complaint to blogger telling them my feelings and how I didn't feel safe using their services anymore. I never heard anything back, so about a week later I checked out the terms of use for Blogger. They say under the blogger content policy(which was incredibly hard to locate), "Blogger is a free service for communication, self-expression and freedom of speech." "Pornography and Obscenity: Image and video content that contains nudity, sexually graphic material, or material that is otherwise deemed explicit by Google should be made private. Otherwise, we may put such content behind an interstitial. "

Though my complete preference would be that those things would not be permitted at all, they have changed their policy just a bit. And I like to think that I had something to do with that.

Previously Blogger stated that those obscenities were permissible as long as they were flagged which created a warning to the viewer before the page displayed. The only way a page would have a warning like that was if they were actually flagged. I happened upon a page with out a warning! Like I was going to stay on that page long enough to flag it. I immediately hit the red X.

Anyway. That is just one experience I've had recently. One small step at a time. Like the Lord promises us, "by small and simple things shall great things come to pass."

If we are willing to fight we can make a difference.

Love you.

Maybe I am mistaken, maybe they haven't changed their policy...Here is what Blogger has to say.
"Is adult content permitted on Blogger?

As outlined in the Blogger Content Policy, adult content is permitted on Blogger; however, when adult content is flagged by users, we may show users a content warning page before they view flagged material to prevent people who don't want to see this material from stumbling on it accidentally. We feel that this is the best solution in order to maintain a safe online experience for users of all ages and to be a platform for the personal expression and creativity that has come to characterize Blogger and its users.

To report adult material not currently placed behind a content warning page, please flag the blog as objectionable using the flag button on the blog's Navbar. We will review the blog and take action as necessary. If you are unable to flag the blog, please click here to fill out an abuse report.

As outlined in the Blogger Content Policy, adult material used for the primary purpose of commercial gain is not allowed on Blogger."

But SERIOUSLY do they really monitor these kinds of things to make sure people are following the policy? Who are these people trying not to offend? seriously.

It is sad to me that a service so great can be used to defile the body the mind and the spirit.

Yes, it's sad about the internet, but remember that all things have been given to us to further the Lord's work. Of course there will be opposition and attempts to subvert what are great ideas and blessings into shackles and chains.

Think of how many people will be able to watch General Conference via the internet in their language this coming weekend.

CP80 is a great idea. We need to push for it, or else it will fail like the ".xxx" domain idea a few years ago. It's silence from us that enables things to fail.

I know it's frustrating to run across stuff that is "ugh" on the internet, but if we are in tune with the Spirit, he will warn us. I have experienced this, and know that the Lord watches out for us.

I'm just saying said...
